Poland-Ukraine Microregion
Welcome to the website of the Wiar Valley Microregion, bridging Subcarpathia in Poland and the Lviv Region of Ukraine. The Microregion represents a unique attempt to rebuild the historic ties between the Polish and Ukrainian people in a region of Europe that saw untold suffering and cultural devastation during World War Two and under communism. Drawing on a desire to overcome historic enmities, and to build on the common interests of today’s communities, the Microregion represents at the local level the major theme of Central Europe after the fall of communism: the desire for peaceful reconciliation, and working together in the common interest of joining Europe and the family of free nations.
Through a series of CSR (Corporate Social responsibility) projects, supported by the Gmina (districts) of Bircza and Fredropol and the Rejon (Region) of Stary Sambor in the Ukraine, and the voluntary efforts of the local people, the Wiar Valley Microregion is a unique example of business, local government, and communities working together to transform their lives, at the edge of Europe.
The Microregion is proud to be the first Trans-border Microregion created on the EU’s easternmost border, neighbouring the Ukraine. |
